During our regular play sessions, we spend time observing each child while they explore different materials and objects, paying close attention to their sensory interests and preferences. We will make a Toolkit for each individual, filled with things like sensory materials, toys and objects to help children play, explore and self-regulate beyond our club sessions.
This eight-session workshop explored the intersection of art and nature through a sensory approach. Participants engaged in activities such as printing, painting, moulding, and modelling, inspired by natural elements found at Kelvingrove Park and other local sites. In a supportive, inclusive environment, the sessions nurtured creativity, self-expression, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Eight in-person sessions involving young people constructing, composing,
attaching sensory objects to a mesh panel. Each session was focus on one
colour: yellow, blue, red, green, violet, pink, and orange. The artists leading
the activity brought materials of
each relevant colour, as well as using some from Stoneside community that
gathered coloured objects of interest in anticipation. For example, on week 1:
yellow mesh, we worked with yellow tonal objects with a range of sensory
qualities, gathered and made during the course of the session.
